The 28th annual Boscov’s Berks Jazz Fest in Reading, PA is a 10 day event which runs from Friday, April 6th through Sunday, April 15th, 2018. Presented by Berks Arts Council, this festival has grown since its inception in 1991 to become one of the most important jazz events in the USA and it features some of the best in contemporary and traditional jazz, blues, and R&B from all around the globe. Over the 10 day duration, there will be more than 100 events at large venues, clubs and restaurants throughout Reading and Greater Berks County.
Scheduled to perform at this year’s event are performers new to the festival as well as many audience favorites from years past. Among these are popular jazz/R&B keyboardist Brian Culbertson, saxophonist Dave Koz performing along with trumpeter Rick Braun, the trio of bassist Victor Wooten, drummer David Chambers and saxophonist Bob Franceschini, saxophonist Boney James with singer/songwriter Eric Roberson, NEA Jazz Master Dee Dee Bridgewater with renowned saxophonist Maceo Parker, Kirk Whalum and Everett Harp, Lisa Fischer and Grand Baton, blues guitarist Ana Popovic with saxophonist/vocalist Vanessa Collier, and much much more.
Some of special events and ensemble shows include a tribute to guitarist/composer/producer Chuck Loeb, who died last July, a presentation of “Jazzin’ Up the Pops” by the Reading Pops Orchestra with the Erich Cawalla Quartet, Eric Marienthal’s “Music of Cannonball Adderley”, Rayford Griffin’s “Reflections of Brownie: A Tribute to Clifford Brown”, Kirk Whalum’s “Gospel According to Jazz Celebration”, the Reading Symphony Orchestra’s “Glorious Gershwin” concert, and Gerald Veasley’s Midnight Jams.
